The Five Beauty Products That Cut My Routine In Half

In 2016 I blew entire paychecks at Sephora (boy, do I wish I had that cash back now!).  I religiously watched Instagram videos of makeup tutorials; I practiced my techniques in front of the mirror; and backstage at fashion shows I'd ask the makeup artists doing my face how exactly they were going about applying everything, and with what tools. Obsessed would be an understatement for how immersed I was in the makeup world.

Upon entering adulthood and working two jobs while also attending college full-time, I realized that I no longer could spend two hours doing my makeup in the morning and that I'd have to expedite the process. So, without further adieu, I give you: the unofficial list of makeup products that have changed the way I do my makeup and have me out the door in 20 minutes or less.

Laura Mercier Pure Canvas Primer Protecting SPF 30

My obsession with primers began in 2016, and I have to say that this one takes the cake. It's moisturizing, not too heavy, and has SPF packed already inside so you can either layer over already existing SPF like I do (I like the Elta MD Skincare one) or go with it on its own. It makes sure my look stays on all day and looks like actual skin, and not makeup.

Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer

It took me about six years to purchase this for myself and see what all of the hype was about, but after I did, I never looked back. I've tried everything: heavy concealers, light concealers, and drugstore wonders that never really actually did anything but sit on my skin. This little beauty packs a punch that other concealers don't, which is remain lightweight while still covering up anything you'd rather forget about.

Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour

From the years 2010-2012 Clinique had a chokehold on me that I can only compare to that of the obsession I had with the Twilight books when I was in eighth grade. This stick is malleable enough that you can rub it in quick with your fingers, or use a wet sponge to soak up any extra product if you get a little carried away with the cute little crayon design. And don't worry - unlike other contours in its category, it doesn't dry into a harsh line on your face if you don't blend it fast enough. Also, the name is pretty great, and so are its sculpting powers, too.

Milani Highly Rated Mascara

I've never been one to be devoted to a mascara. While I had a firm grip on the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara for most of my college years, I found it clumpy and not at all naturally buildable. Now that I'm 27, I realized quality doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. That's where the Milani Highly Rated Mascara comes in. Prep lashes with a quick curl from your favorite lash curler and three swipes from the highly-buildable formula and voila...you've got yourself a look

Laura Geller Doubletake Versatile Powder Foundation Duo

The photos for this product truly do not do it justice... but this product is a lifesaver. Used in combination with the Tarte Shape Tape concealer, it truly is the quickest way to save yourself time in the mornings. I apply it with a kabuki brush over well-blended concealer over trouble spots. For extra oomph: apply the Benefit Hoola Bronzer on your cheekbones for a more sculpted look.

Honorable Mention: The Jade Gua Sha

When it comes to the gua sha...I was skeptical at first. There's no way this little tool can de-puff my face and make me look more sculpted! Well, it turns out I was wrong. I ordered a jade (it can be any style, really) gua sha off of Amazon once I started seeing results my friends were having (and before you ask...no. They did not get help from masseter botox or filler!) and used it twice a day. I noticed immediate contour around my eyes, and more definition in my cheekbone area. If nothing else, it's great for draining your lymph nodes, and I use it every time I feel a sinus or ear infection brewing to get the drain started beforehand. It truly is a great, essential tool to use before you apply any makeup.
