Get In Besties, We're Going Healing: Here Are The Best Podcasts to Jumpstart Your Healing Era
Healing from heartbreak is never a linear experience. Healing from anything, period, is never a linear or fun experience. If I could describe it as anything: it's truly a hellhole from which the human brain and heart seems to have about as much of a chance of getting out of in a reasonable amount of time as someone has in winning Mario Cart when they slip on several bananas. I truly hope someone got that reference and if you didn't, then you didn't play enough Mario Cart.
Heartbreak and healing seems to be a universal experience. We all go through it, we've all suffered and we've all lost someone we never thought we'd lose. We've had to heal and pick up the pieces of a broken heart, or mourn the loss of a dream job gone down the drain. The pain is universal, but it's never the same for two people twice. Two gutwrenching, crying-on-the-floor-of-your-bathroom breakups and letdowns are never, ever the same kind of pain; but the healing seems to go the same way. What worked the first time doesn't work the second time, and so you have to turn to the reinforcements for help. Yes friends: the podcasts.
Podcasts seems to have taken a shocking uptick in popularity in recent years (with stars like Joe Rogan and Dax Shepard hopping on the bandwagon, how couldn't they?) and they have spared no topic. True crime, financial advice, love stories (truly, check out Modern Love by The New York Times, which I am mentioning here in replacement of adding it below) and more, there really isn't a podcast topic you can look over. There's something for everyone. So, in lieu of me discussing heartbreak, healing, and how to do all of that (I'm no therapist - but I know I'll inevitably weigh in on what has worked and definitely not worked for me in the past), I've decided to compile the best podcasts to help you jumpstart your healing era, close some wounds, and maybe laugh a little on the way.
WE MET AT ACME
This podcast is one of my favorites, as host Lindsey Metselaar tackles every topic (infertility, dating, marriage, infidelity, and, of course, healing from heartbreak and loss) with special guests ranging from doctors to social media and television personalities. Her episodes are diverse in topic which makes them so interesting, but be sure to be on the lookout for episodes pertaining to what you're in the need for - she has an episode for everything! Also, follow @wemetatacme for her daily polls, advice, and videos that are extremely fun to do and watch.
TWO BEARS, ONE CAVE
Ok, I know what you're thinking: why the hell are you putting Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer on my healing playlist? Well honestly, they say laughter is the best medicine, so why would they not be on the playlist? Two Bears is first and foremost a comedy podcast, and I've listened religiously since 2021. It has never failed to make me laugh, even through the toughest times, and hearing Tom and Bert's quips and banter is an amazing way to distract yourself for an hour and a half. It's also fun to watch on Youtube!
DATE YOURSELF INSTEAD
This one is kind of self-explainatory, but it's a fantastic podcast. After discovering it on TikTok, I became a religious listener, and host Lyss Boss makes the topics fun. From manifesting your dream life to getting over an ex - she has a topic for everything related to healing and focusing on yourself and your goals while you wait for the right person to come to you. She has a best-friend-at-a-wine-night vibe about her podcast so you feel like you're just hanging out with the girls, and has great advice. I'd give it a 10/10.
JOCKO PODCAST
This one is an absolute must for anyone sending up a Hail Mary when they're having a hard time. Even when I've been at my absolute happiest, this podcast has been a staple in my arsenal and a usual haunt for me to turn on to listen to while I fall asleep. It's motivational, inspiring, and is the perfect podcast for when you just need a push to get through the day (or even get dressed in the morning). Former Navy SEAL Team Three member and Naval officer Jocko Willink uses battle stories, excerpts from discipline and military books, and SEAL techniques that apply to real life scenarios to motivate, inspire, and get you back on your feet. No, you don't have to have been in the military to listen, as it is always used to apply to everyday life and helping you realize that this too shall pass, even if it seems like it never will.
TRYING NOT TO CARE
Host Ashley Corbo walks "girlies who overthink and care too much" through life's strangest battles by tackling topics such as mental health, friendship breakups, actual breakups, self love and body image. Wiht a similar delivery to Date Yourself Instead, this podcast is another great one for anyone going through a hard time and entering their healing era.
ON ATTACHMENT
Spearheaded by relationship coach Stephanie Rigg, On Attachment dives deep into attachment theory, love, overall relationships and understanding which attachment style you have and how to understand it. Since attachment styles can be changed and some can be problematic, this is a fantastic podcast for if you're single OR coupled up and wanting to understand yours and your partners' attachment styles for easier communication.
SEEING OTHER PEOPLE
This podcast actually has a very cute story. Dating expert Ilana Dunn welcomes herself and guests onto the podcast to discuss complexities and pitfalls of modern dating (and how to overcome it). She discusses being single, in a relationship, healing, and everything in between. Definitely a must-listen for anyone in their 20s and 30s!
GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT
Arguably one of my favorite podcasts, hysterically funny married couple Jon and Alex answer listener questions that are sent in regarding everything relationships, being single, family issues, and more. The two weigh in from both a male and female perspective and give fantastic advice from a healthily married couple's perspective. Be prepared, some questions are WILD but definitely entertaining, and their advice is always amazing.
ADULT CHILD
This podcast tackles some heavy issues, like healing from abuse, childhood trauma, and more. Healing doesn't just mean healing from heartbreak, it can mean healing from other things, too. This podcast is an essential for anyone starting from square one to heal themselves from the beginning to now, and is an amazing listen even if you're curious.
Alright folks, here are just some of the podcasts that have made me smile, reflect, heal and laugh through the years. Some of them have kept me moving even when I thought I never would again, but alas, I am still kicking. I hope that some of these help you, and I'll compile them into a playlist and share them with you all.
